INTERESTING GLEANINGS IK SYDNEY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The researches of Dr. R. McXab into the early history of New Zealand (have been advanced further bj' his visit to Sydney, whence he returned to-day after an absence of a month. Dr. McXab told a Post reporter that the first volume of his work on the history of the North Island of New Zealand was just about to be issued, and he is now busy witth the second. The first volume covers the period from 1042 to 1818, and the second will run from 181!l'to 1832. He has just "visited Sydney in order to obtain from the newspapers there a quantity of material relating to New Zealand in the second period. He had to out his visit short, but be was able to complete his search up till 1830. In addition to this work, lie continued his investigation, begun last year, of the early Supreme Court records in Sydney. These papers contain much that relates to causes in court dealing with New Zealand affairs at the time before there was any white settlement here, to say nothing of a court.
