The Herald, commenting on the extension of the German lines to New Zealand, says that hitherto the European trade to New Zealand has been carried almost exclusively by P>ritish ships. As members of the British Empire one must regret that their virtual monopoly is soon to be lost, but even the most inveterate antipodean ' Chauvinist can hardly find any grievance in this.
