Sydney. July (!. Both sides are appealing in the Browne-Bridge case.
A ••aMofrram on Juno 17 stated that Gwendoline Browne. aged IS. ox-tvpiste in the tirm of -lolm Jlri<lfz<- ami Co.. claimed C'iIKNJ compensation from Lionel Bridge, managing flir<n-tor of th company, for libel and assault. The claim rested on a letter written by tlie defendant to the head of MUBrowne's department, ordering him to dispense with Tier services, for alloyed acts of impropriety oil the company's promises, anil contemptuous disregard of instructions. The plaintiff denied the charges, and alleged that the defendant used unnecessary force in removing her from the premises. After a lengthy summing-up by the Chief I Justice, the jury on .lune 17 found that the defendant, was not actuated by malice in writing the letter complained of. or by personal feeling against the plaintiff. or. with the object of averting the power of the directors to dismiss employees without Morath's consent, regardless of the plaintill'. On the second count, as to whether the defendant used unni'cossary violence in removing Browrie from the premise*, the jury found in the affirmative, and awarded the plaintiff damages. The tVul Justice refused an application to stay proceedings.
