FURIOUS HYPNOTIC DRIVING. By Telegraph—Press Association. | Pahiatua, Last Night. A hypnotist, named C. A. Dabnciine, who recently vWtcd Palliatua with a theatrical company, was fined 20* and costs ]2s for driving a cab round a corner other than a waiting pace. He was also convicted and discharged for furious driving. The charges were tilie outcome of a blindfold drive tSwough the main street. A witness stated that defendant, who did not appear, drove a call containing a committee of local residents at the rate of sixteen miles an hour. ■■,. , ~,., :..c.*;
LAND FOR SETTLEMENT AT MASTER-TON'. Masterton, Last Night. The members of the Land Purchase Board are at present inspecting several stations in this district that are said to be suitable for closer settlement.
BUTTER IN COOL STORE. Wellington, Last Night. The following quantities of butter are in cool store at the various ports at this date, given in boxes:—Auckland, 24,852; New Plymouth, 79")5; Patea, 20-36; Wanganui, 1401; Wellington, 25,2«ti; Lvttelton, 4071; Duncdin, 2228.
MARINE ENQUIRY. Auckland, Last Night. The sinking of the scow Pahiki after a collision with the steamer Clansman m the harbor on the morning of June li was the subject of a nautical enquiry which opened to-day. Several witnesses gave evidence, and the enquiry will be continued to-morrow.

Kn enquiry was held, to-day concerning tlic accident lo tin: l>arcpie Joseph Lraig, which struck a rock in Kaugitoto channel on June 21, when inward bound from Melbourne. Evidence was given to the effect that a violent squall struck the vessel in the early hours » morning, several witnesses stating that everything possible was done undei the circumstances. Decision was reserved.
