The insurance adjusters' estimate gives
the loss at Salem at ten to twelve million dollars, which is covered by insurance. Measures have been taken for the relief of the homeless and the poorer classes, mostly foreigners, who have been provided with tents. Over 3500 are directly dependent upon the relief committee, while 4500 waited in the bread lines and received food, which is flowing
PROJjA RELIEF- MEASURES. New York, June '26. Although many were injured in the big fire at Salem only two deaths have been reported. ' Before the fire hai" been fairly checked, relief measures and plans for re-building were under way. The Governor announced that tents and 10,000 rations would be shipped to the city immediately. A public meeting has been called at Boston to take further measures for relief.
