A considerable contingent of Stratford residents visited the Hawera Show yesterday, the special train being well filled. The Municipal Band, before leaving by the train to take part in the gymkhana, played several pieces of music, which were much appreciated. The 'borough steam roller was put out of action for a while yesterday, owing I to having backed into a soft spot, with the result that it had to be jacked up and dug out, Dut the borough engineer was equal to the occasion, and eventually the roller resumed its work. BUILDING BIGGER MILK CHEQUES.

Bacio Slag makes bigger milk cheques, say Messrs W. M. Bayly and Co. in their I new advertisement to-day, and impress on farmers that they are booking orders now for this fertiliser, which has given such phenomenal results in Taranaki. The "Pitsburgh Perfect" electrically welded fence is a line that every farmer should familiarise himself with, if only as an education on the wondrous incentive faculty and skilled workmanship of our American cousins. Oil clothing, horse and cow covers, and every imaginable kind of food for every kind of farm stock are supplied by uie Ann at the lowest prices, and in these departments the trade is showing splendid growth. Mr Bayly's personal knowledge of the district and its requirements for somewhere about twenty years should stand the firm in good stead.
