SAWMILLERS' CONFERENCE.

MEETING AX TAIIIAI'K. By Telegraph—Press Association, Taihape, Wednesday.

A conference of North Island sawmillerg was held at Taihape last night, Mr. W. Hopkirk, of Wellington, presiding. The question of freight anomalies in tlie railway tariff was discussed, and it was decided that the strongest representations be made to have all the stations brought under the one scale of charges. The cheaper carriage of shorts was also advocated, and it was decided to try to have this class of timber brought under class F (fencing rate) of the railway tariff, enabling manufacturers of fruit cases, etc., to make use of this timber instead of the imported article. The conference concluded at a very late hour, mid it was decided that similar conference be held half-yearly.
