A TARANAKI PROVINCIAL COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hawera, Last Night. At a representative meeting of licensees between A ram oho and New Plymouth held at llawera to-day, it was decided to form a Taraitaki Provincial Council. Resolutions were passed, asking that strong representations be made to the Government not to reduce the three-fifths majority on eithe r local option Or na/tionil prohibition polls; that in the event af nationa' prohibition being carried seven years elapse before it becomes operative; .that tllie local option issue be eliminated, and the national issue alone be submitted.
SOUTH CANTERBURY ACTION. Timaru, Last Night. A deputation of the Licensed Victuallers' Council met Messrs Craigie (Ti - maru) and Buxton (Temulia), M.P.'s. Mr. Smith (M.P. for Y/aitaki) was apologised for. They laid before the members the resolutions which had been adopted in this and other districts. -Special reference was made to the ease of Gcraldine, which lost its licenses through being brought into the "dry" Ashburton electorate, though the local option poll did not give a majority for "dry," but did not give the three-fifths majority for restoration. Mr. Craigie promised consideration of the resolutions and arguments, and admitted the anomaly in the case of an Ashburton house which was returned by the changed boundaries to a licensed district.
