A NEW ERA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, June 19. The conference of the employers of waterfront lalbor, which commenced on Wednesday, concluded to-day, and the decision arrived at will mean an entirely new era as far as the control of the wharves is concerned. It was resolved to form an association of employers with the object of improving the conditions of the laborers on the waterfront. The association, which is to !be called the Wellington Co-oper-ative Maritime Labor Employment Association, is to be registered under the incorporated Societies Act and the Industrial Conciliation Act, tiie intention being to bring the whole of the waterfront labor under one control, and in this way to secure more permanent work Tor wharf employees. The rules of the Association have" been drafted, and it has been decided to hold a conference with the officials of the wharf Laborers' Union to secure the co-operation of that organisation b>. making the scheme a success. A committee of management has been appointed to carry out details. Mr T. Shailer Weston has been appointed the Association's solicitor, and Messrs Watkins, Hull and Wheeler the auditors. Practically the whole of the employers of the waterfront labor have signiiied their intention of joining the accotiation, with the deception of the Harbor Board, the illness of Mr K. Fletcher (chairman) having prevented the situation with regard to that body being discussed with him.
