BEE-KEEPING.
CONFERENCE CONCLUDES. Per Press Association. Wellington, June 19. The annual conference of the National ■Beekeepers' Association of New Zealand was concluded to-day. A number of important resolutions bearing on the export trade in honey were agreed to. 'lt v.-as resolved to ask the Agricultural Department to amend the export regulations so as to allow honey tins to be varnished with raw linseed oil, instead of having to be lacquered. A motion by Mr Bray (Canterbury) to the effect that the inspectors of the Department would be more usefully cmployed in eradicating disease than in grading, provoked animated discussion, but was lost by a large majority. It was unanimously resolved to request the Government to appoint more inspectors in view of the rapid growth of the industry.
The deputation waited on the Hon R. R. Rhodes (Postmaster-General), who acted for the Minister for Agriculture. They requested the Government to take in hand a scheme to supply beekeepers with young and vigorous queen bees. The deputation reported that the Ministei had giveil them a sympathetic hearing, and promised to bring the matter before the Minister for Agriculture. Papers were read on "specialisation" arid "Foreign Markets" and the conference closed with tbc election of officers for the coming year, which resulted as follows:—President, Mr James Alleen (Southland); vice-president, iMr J. S. Cotterell (Waikato); secretary, Mr R, W. Brickell (Duncdin); executive, North Island: Messrs S. Hutchinson and H. W. Gilling; South Island, 'Messrs A. Ireland, C. A. Jacobsen; auditor, Mr F. 0. Baines.
