TARANAKI (N.Z.) OIL WELLS 00.,
BIG BLOW-OUT AT THE ROTARY. For some days past the management of the Taranaki (N.Z.) Oil Wells, Ltd., has been conscious of increased gas indications in the rotary bore, and on Wednesday, as the bore was standing almost full of oil, it was decided to use the sand-pump, with a view to finding the amount of the accumulation. In about four hours some thirty-five barrels of pure oil were secured. As the oil in the tore was reduced, the gas activities became stronger, and with a view to securing complete control of the bore it was decided to insert the deep well pump and tubing. A pump was accordingly rigged up yesterday Morning. At about 7.30 a.m. operations commenced, and until aibout 1'1.30 the bore was clearing itself nicely, and coming on to oil. At about 12.30, however, the strong pressure of gas previously encountered in this bore asserted itself, and a "blow-out," similar in strength to the last one, occurred. It was impossible 4o continue pumping -until the gas pressure subsided, which up to the time of going to press had not occurred.
