THE GALE IN AUSTRALIA.
BATTLING WITH THE STORM. BABY BORN INTO A BOISTEROUS WORLD. Received 18, 8.35 p.m. Sydney, June 18.
After thirty-six hours' battling with tliu storm, the Wakatipu returned to port, badly battered, with her rudder broken, lifeboats and deck fittings smashed. During the storm a baby was bom aboard.
The sailing vessel grounded in Newcastle harbor is still aground, and is considerably damaged. A big sea is running, and shipping is still sheltering. A TRYING EXPERIENCE.

The Wakatipu had a trying experience. For six hours she was out of control, and wallowing in the tremendous seas, great waves breaking aboard. Much water found its way into the cabins and stokehold. Eventually Hand gear was rigged, and she beat her way buck to port.
SYDNEY SHIPPING DELAYED. Sydney, June 18. The gale continues, and no steamers 'ft port last night.
