NORTHERN UNION GAME. ENGLAND BEATS QUEENSLAND. THE VISITORS' BRILLIANT PLAY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 14, 5.5 p.m. Brisbane, June 13.
The weather was fine for the League match, England v. Queensland. The visitors, after leaning at half time by K" points to nil, eventually won by 18 to 10. Fourteen thousand people were present. Tile first half was very fast. The English forwards, by brilliant play, badly beat the Queensland pack, and the hacks, a magnificent combination, were, very hard to "Stop when they got properly moving. TheQueeneknders played solidly, but the Englishmen's weight told against them. Of tairty scrums, Queensland secured -the .bull onlv three times. The second half was vigorously contested. The Queenskindcis played 'with great determination and dash, tackling splendidly, but they lacked though they frequently had the visitors on the defensive. The fast pace in the 'first speK told against the English forwards, and they lost . much of their dash. The backs played with wonderful combination, but the defence of the home players equalised matters? The concluding stage Was very exciting, the Quecnslanders showing to better advantage than the visitors. Smaies was ordered off the field for rough play. Scorers were: For England, Williams (2), Francis an.- Davis (1). Thomas converted a try, and Guerin landed a penalty goal, and a goal from a mark; for Queensland, McOabe and Scott a try each. H. Bovev*ki converted oiv, and also landed a penalty goal.

The Rugby football championship matches on Saturday resulted as follow: City beat Marist Brothers by 3 to nil: Ponsonby beat (JoHcge. Rifles bv 15 to 5. City are Jcading for the championship with eight points. University being second with seven points.
WELLINGTON MATCHES.
1 Wellington, Last Xight. The weather on Saturday was cold ami 'bleak, with occasional showers. making the conditions for fee various sports unpleasant. The Athletic v. I'ctone Rugby match was exciting, being won in the last stride, so to speak. Result*: Atiik'tie .beat Petone by 9 to G; Ponekc beat Oricnital by lfi to o; Un'iversity .beat Melrose by 12 to nil; Wellington beat St. James by 11 to nil.

AUCKLAND MATCHES. Auckland, Last Night. Saturday's Northern Union football results are as follows: Orafton heat City by 14 to 10; Pon;-onby beat Newton ,by 17 to 3: North Shore -beat Otahuhu by 15 to 5.

Saturday saw the conclusion of the first round of the senior cup fixtures in line weather. Eadh of tho leading teams scored wins—in one case very easily and in anotJli'er by default—so that there was no alteration in the portions. Scoring was very prolific in the two matches played, no less than 72 points being totted up by three -teams.
STRATFORD 30 v. OKATO 0. The match between thi ,w c two teams n almost described .by the scores. TUKAPA 21 v. ING-LE'WGOD 11
The above, teams met <m the Inglewooil ground when one of itlie best games witnessed on the local ground took place in fine 'weatiWcr. Tukapa won the toss, and 'decided to play Vt'ith the wind. The play was fast throughout. Immediately after the kick off Tukapa attacked vigorously, and Ward scored. Lovcridge -railed with 'the kick
at goal. Inglewood now played with great dash, and 01-on i-coi'ed. Miles failed to convert. Tukapa invaded Ingle\Vood territory,, and tttanneriiig scored another try, whitii Lovd'klge converted. The Tukapa backs started a passing rush, and after a scramble on the ]ino the visitors again got 'over, but no try resulted. Soon after frlic whistie sound half time, with iihe acoro at: Tukapa 11, Inglewood 3. On resuming some fast play ensued, and Tu>kapa were kept busy defending tlieir goal line. Tilie borne team were awarded a fltee kick, and G. Miles kicked a beautiful goal. Both teams were now playing their best, and several players of both sides were temporarily disabled. C. Miles wast held up on the line, and a scrum took place dose to Tukapa'a goal line. Soon after, T. Sehrieder scored fo r Inglewood, find G. Miles again converted. With a few minutes to go, the score stood: Tukapa. 10, Inglewood 11, and Inglewood looked like scoring again, when Lwveridge broke through tare Inglewood forwards and scored between .the postal Loveridgc converted. The whistle sounded »'ith the 1 score: Tukapa 21, Inglewood 11. On the play there was little to choose between the two teams. G. 'Miles wsis the best of the backs on his side, while Loveridge stood out on his own for the visitors. W. F. Spurdle referced! in Ms usual efficient manner.
STAB, FORFEIT TO CLIFTON. Owing to several of tlieir players being engaged unloading the Walkure, Star were unable to muster a. team to fulfil their engagement with Clifton, and so wore compelled to forfeit.
SOHOQL FOOTBALL. High School Preparatory and West End draw, each team scoring 3 points-.
