FIRES.
DIFFICULT RESCUE AT DUNEDIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Friday. A fire -which occurred after midnight m a block of shops with residences overhead was of a sensational, rather than a serious, character. The outbreak originated apparently in the developing room of the American Electric Photographic studio, in some material which caused a dense smoke, which seriously alarmed the residents in tlic two dwellings upstairs, served by one exit. Rescue by the brigade from both was exciting and very difficult, having to be effected from the windows overlooking a glass roof verandah. One woman and three children were safely rescued, but Mrs. Carter, who was in 'a delicate condition, jumped out of the arms of the fire superintendent, fell through the glass roof, received a severe cut on the thigh, and is suffering from severo (shock, The actual damage to the premises was not serious.
