The Winter Show

CHILDREN'S DAY. Yesterday at the Winter Show was people's day in miniature, as befits a day for the little folk. From an early hour the show was beset with small people in their best bibs anil tuckers, and wearing the air of conscious pride which goes with such apparel. Mothers; too, appeared to enjoy the outing quite as much as their charges, and duly admired the sleek cats, pert cage birds and tiny staggering puppies, which made up the children's pet sections. The side shows were the subject of muoh admiration, and the childish , respect for the wild west rider, in voluminous nether garments, beset with an array of lethal weapons, was good to see.. NELSOX FRUIT. A further evidence of the interest taken in the show outside tli(3 province arrived yesterday, in the shape of a splendid selection of apples from. Mr. Leigh Grooby's Nelson orchard. Unfortunately hy a misunderstanding the fruit came to hand too late for competition. It was therefore placed on exhibition, and attracted considerable attention. The selection includes the finest of Munroe's favorite, Rome beauty, fiturmer pippin, Spitzenberg dessert. Jonathan dessert, Rokewood late dessert, and several others.
