CRUELLY ILL-TREATS HER CHILD. By Telegraph—Press Association'. Invercargill, Last Night. Before Mr. Hutchison, S.M., at Riverton to-dny, a married woman, Nellie McCreath, was charged that, being the mother and having custody of Gladys McCreath, aged 4'/ 3 years, she <lid wilfully ill-treat the child in a manner likely to cause it unnecessary suffering. From the evidence, it appeared that on May II the attention of a constable waa directed to the child, and on examination he found it a mass of bruises from head to heel, with some, abrasions and marks about the face. The little one wa a taken to a doctor, who, upon examination, described it as a shocking case. The woman was fined £lO and expenses, or in default two months' imprisonment with hard labor. The custody of the child was taken from her. ■
