■Mr A. W. Packard, lately on the literary staff of ,the Taranaln Daily News, and uratil recently on Uhht of the Wellington Evening Post, has severed his connection with the latter jpapei", and leaves Auckland on Friday for Witieemver. Ho intends to spend some time in Canada. A Tory old identity in the person of Mr Tom Clark died on Saturday morning at tHi'e age oif 82 years. The late Mr Clark was connected with- the early days of South Canterbury, where he was engaged carting round about Tiumfini. In tilie 'citpjlilUes ho came to Taranaki and farmed for some time in the Oloato district. About 1803 he njecepted tflilo position of "ruKlenw to the late Mr J. C. George a|t "Maiuunul," on tßie. Avetjus road, ajid (has remained there ever since, despite changes of ownership, and it was there that Ihfe died.
