Mackenzie accompanied the Maoris on a visit to Sir John Gorst, ■■ who is recruiting at Margate. It was an affecting meeting with Taingahawa. ' whose father saved Sir John's life dur- .; ing the Ma'ori war. 1 Mr. Mackenzie to-day introduced the ' Maoris to Mr. Ilarcourt, who promised ■ to assist in securing an audience with , the King, on the understanding that 1 it was purely a courtesy call, and that no grievances would be discussed.
