MB STANLEY SMITH RKfIiRNED. The fact that three candidates had been nominated for the vacancy on tin: Borough Council, causedi by tho resignation of Cr. J. E. Wilson 011 ihds elevation to tho Mayoralty, augured well fox a healthy interest being displayed in municipal matters by local hurgesses. The augury, however, was not fulfilled, as on the polling day (yesterday) so little interest was taken in the election, that oat of 4000 electors on the roll only 654 recorded their votes. Mr S. Smith was elected by a majority 38 over Mr W. F. Short. The succeajful candidate only gained a majority at three polling centres out of the nine, but Fitzroy and East Enid went Bolidly foj him,, and that gained him the verdict. Detailed results:—
