FIRES.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, May 21. There was a big fire at Shannon early this morning, and! Merwood'9 refresh ment rooms, Hook's billiard saloon, Jenkins' saddlery, and Richardson's butchery were destroyed. Nothing what ever was saved. Merwood, HoWk and Richardson were not insuired. The buildings w,ere the property of Mrs Cur-; (ran, arid were insured! for £360. The temporary premises of the Bank of New Zealand had a narrow escape.
