CAPTAIN COOK'S LETTERS.

Captain Cook's letters, which arc to be offered by Sotheby's for sa!c, describe the first voyage of the Endeavor to Mr. John Walker, partner in the firm of Whitby, shipowners, i<> whom Captain Cook had been apprenticed; ako a graphic description of the second voyage, including reference to Antarctica, saying: "We are now sure that no southern continent exists l ucre, unless it is near the Pole, that the coist cannot bo navigated for ice, and therefore not worth discovery. Ralph Clarke's diary, written durbig the voyage to Botany Bay, is prefaced by a list of the named convicts aboard the transport ship Friendship, with full particulars of each. There are horrible entries describing the lashings of boy convict*.
