Under the agreement reached by the conference of Statu Treasurers, the Commonwealth Dank surrenders its savings bank business and the States undertake to transfer their current banking accounts to the Commonwealth Bank, thus ending the previous competition between the institution!. Queensland stands out for (he present owing to arrangements with the Queensland National Bank, and Tasmania because competition between the Commonwealth and State banks has existed. The conference discussed tlie question of the Commonwealth taking over the State debts, but failed to reach an agreement.
