STATE EMPLOYEES.
INCRKASES AND CONCESSIONS. By Telegraph—Press Assceiation. Wellington, Last Night.
Certain concessions which have recently beeu made under the authority of the Public Service Commissioners to employees in several of the State Departments were explained by the Hon. R. IT. Rhodes to-day, in so far as'they relate to the departments antler his control. The maximum salaries of mental hospital male attendants ,haye b"en raised, and in addition it was been decided that the emoluments (such as house arid lodging allowances) of oflieers of the Department in th? general and clerical divisions, who arc drawing salaries of .CSOf) a year or lc3s, shall be paid as an addition to salary. In or. der that they may be included in the, computation for purposes of superannuation, these additions will be refunded by the oliiccrs concerned, aiid credited to the maintenance account. This, Mr Rhodes remarked, would give officers increased superannuation benefits ami enable them to draw considerably increased pensions. He believed that this would give general satisfaction, and remove a long-standing grievance. A similar arrangement has been made as regards the Tourist Department. In regard to the post ofiice employees, the maximum salary of linesmen and post ofKoe, messengers -has been increased from .£!"(> to CIS) per annum, and a further 225 officials will huve their maximum salaries raised from X 229 to .C'2:i(> per annum.
