NO-LICENSE LEAGUE.
ANNUAL .MEETINfi. At Hie annual meeting of the Taranaki Xo-Liconsc League, the Rev. T. H. Roseveare presided over a good attendance of members. Sir. 0. E. Bellringer, in a few preliminary remarks, referred to the good work of the past, and the necessity for still greater efforts in view of the coming poll. He considered that the prospects of the movement had never been brighter. He hoped that when the big deputation went to the Prime Minister in June, to (leal with the question of a straight-out majority, they would receive, the "square deal," of which so much had been heard lately.
REPORT. The secretary's report referred to the efforts made towards having the "threefifths majority" removed. It had been hoped that this would have been accomplished by a Bill brought down at the end of last session by the Premier, but if Parliament were not prepared to do this, the only remedy would be in the election of members of Parliament. The democratic voter's pledge had been further circulated and signed, mainly through the work of Misß Ambury. The report of the treasurer (Mr. W. A. Collis) showed a small balance of cash in hand, with a debt of £25 for overdue assessment to the New Zealand Alliance. Mr. Bellringer pointed out that the state of finances was largely due to the fact that the organiser for the Alliance had not been able to visit the district, as had been hoped. GENERAL. Messrs Bellringer and ftoodacre, speaking on the question of providing literature for circulation during the seven months preceding the election, outlined a scheme which would cost £IOO to £l5O, which they reccflhmended for favorable consideration.
