CONTENTS OF GUARD'S VAN BURNED.

Bv Telegrnnh—Press Association. ' Auckland, Last Night. A lire, the origin of which is a mystery, occurred, on the North Auckland line yesterday, between Kawakawa and Opau. Flames were discovered in the guard's van on the train as it ran down to Opau wharf, and patent lire extinguishers were tried without avail. On arrival at the station, (he, outbreak was subdued by a bucket brigade, although by them the contents of the van had been badly damaged, with tl.o exception of the mails, which were, rescued intact. Amongst the goods destroyed was a full programme of moving picture films, valued at £4OO, and owned by Hay- ; wards, Ltd.
