THE GAUDF.LOPE VICTIMS. THEIR DEATH AVENGED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, May 9. The Eev. J. H. McGowan launched a scathing indictment ef conditions in the New Hebrides at the Presbyterian Assembly, declaring that the condominium had done infinite damage to the credit of England and France. A motion was passed heartily endorsing the proposal that the Commonwealth should purchase the French rights. - The Paeifique brought news of the landing of a punitive expedition on li;<: island of Malekula by the French gunboat Kersaint to punish the Bignambns tribe for attacking the crew of the recruiting schooner Gaudclope, when three of the crew were killed and eaten. The arrival of the Kersaint created a panic, and the unlives (led into the interior, leaving three sick behind. One. confessed that he had taken part in the murders of the Gaudclope men and was put in gaol. The rest of the tribe escaped, as the country was too rough for the Kersaint's men to follow them.
