THE ROYAL ASSENT. WRETHNTION OF GUN-RUNNING. By Cable—Press Association—Oepyrighfc Londoi, April 30. Three hundred thousand persons have signed the Daily Express' petition to the King to withhold his assent to the Home Rule Bill, until the electorate has been consulted. Replying ,to Sir W. P. Byles, Mr. Asquitk said that measures had already been taken whi;h they Imped would prevent the recurrence of gun-running, but it was not desirable to make a •public announcement on (he sub jest. Sir VT. P. Byles asked if the gun-run-ners oonld not be punished. Mr. Asquith said the Government was considering other aspects of the matter.
Mr. T. P. O'Connor, writing to Reynolds' Newspaper, says in reference to Mr. Churchill's offer that in any arrangements which may be made the Nationalists are determined that their opinions and convictions shall be respected. Eighteen destroyers are patrolling the Ulster coast. The volunteers at Larne cheered them and sang the National Anthem. The sailors returned the cheers. The people at Bangor displayed flags im honor of the warships' visit, and asked the commander to give the usual searchlight display for the public amusement.

Though Ml was complicated by infinite difficulties, lie hoped it contained the germs of solution. If so, the federal system must he something different from ithe present Home Rule Bill.
ROYAIi COMMISSION PROPOSED. Received 1, 9.4* p.m. London, May 1. Mr. Cathcart Wason, M.P., has given notice of motion for the immediate appointment of a Royal Commission to consider the Ulster settlement.
