Piracy on High Seas

BRITISH STEAMER LOOTED AND BURNED. TWO HUNDRED PEOPLE MISSING. By Cable—Press association—Copyright Hongkong, April 2S. Pirates at Kiau, north of Macao, heiil up and burned the British steamer Taion. The chief officer, F. Evans, and 180 persons are missing. Several were wounded, including some of the pirates. Incoming steamers rescued Captain Weatherell, the chief engineer, and 157 passengers and crew. No Europeans were among the passengers. It is feared that two hundred have perished. The pirates shipped as passengers and overpowered the deckhands. A fierce struggle followed with the officers. The engines were stopped, the steering-gear disabled, asd the steamer fired. "
