PROMOTING NEW PLYMOUTH
expansion and tourist leagujc A meeting of the New Pymouth Expansion and Tourist League was hold lftßt evening, when there were present:— Messrs T. C. List (chairman), J. IfCruickshank, A. E. Sykes, S. Teed, J. Morey, A. M. Ji'Diarmnl, A. M'Hardy, S. W. Shaw, and W. A. Col lis (secretary). Tl|e financial position of the League was discussed at length. A number of promised subscriptions had so fur faileit' to ma-terialise, and this prevented all tho accounts being met. It was shown that quite a number of people whose interests ana business had profited by the operations of the League had so far accorded it no assistance. It wag also stated that the members of more than one trade association weve using their organisation as an excuse for contributing nothing to the League's funds. This action was roundly condemned. It was decided to make a big effort to strengthen the finances of the League, and the members present undertook to make a personal canvass of those who should but do not contribute to the funds. A CARNIVAL WEEK.
The matter of holding a carnival week in February of next year was gone into fully, a report being brought down by a committee set up for the purpose. It wag decided to secure from the Pukekunv 1 ark Board and Sports Ground Committee an option for holding a carnival in race week in February, and to further consider the question at another meetimr Tho other business transacted was of a. routine nature.
