TUKAPA (12) v. OKATO (11). j There was not a very large attendance at the match between the above clubs, which was played at the Recreation Grounds' on Saturday to assist in defraying the expenses of the late Tamil's last illness. Owing to the heavy rain, in the morning, the Okato men were late in arriving, and were four short. During the first spell they played two men shorthand Tukapa one man short. The game, though not a brilliant exposition of Rugby, was very fast right through. Okato had the advantage in the forwards, but Tukapa were much superior in the backs, and this enabled them to win by one point. Shortly after the start, Grant scored from a passing rush. Thompson failed to convert. The Okato forwards hotly attacked, but Bruce, cleverly marking under the posts, averted a score. Almost immediately after, Spenee dived across and equalised the scores. Julian failed to goal. A few moment after, another forward rush saw O'Sullivan score, Julian goaled. The Tukapa backs then got moving, and looker, who had narrowly missed scoring shortly before, managed to register a try. Webster failed to goal. The first, spell ended: Okato 8, Tukapa 6. In the second spell Okato opened aggressively, but a fine opening by Hawkins enabled Tockcr to score. Webster's kick went. wide. Okato were again forced, and a few moments later Bruce raised the total to twelve by a neat try, which Hawkins failed to convert. The Okato forwards then held the upper hand, Carey playing a fine game, but though within an aee of scoring several times, could only score one try, Burrowes diving over. .Mian failed with the kick, and a close contest ended in a win for Tukapn by 12 points to 11. Mr. A. V. Stohr iblj referced.
