CAPE KGMOXT SPORTS.
Tlir Ci;k> ligmont Athletic Club held tlieir ('-'ill annual sports meeting at the im liocreation Ground on Wedne«ds'> ! and, though the meeting had I' a s jstponed from April 1, it proved most successful. The attendance was large, and the fields, save in some of the, running events, were exceptionally good. As many as 24 competed in some of the chops. The arrangements were just about perfect, the committee, headed by the capable and indefatigable secretary, Mr. W. F, Guild, carrying out their duties to the moment. The catering was in the hands of Mr. T. Layard and several members of the club, and it was equal to the best. Van Heck's orchestra provided the music, and enlivened proceedings with a fine programme of operatic gems. The children were well catered for, races being run throughout the day. The tug-of-war attracted four entries, and provided much excitement. The results of the races were ns follow: , Maiden Race—H. Alexander 1. '

Sheep-guessing—J. Doody, out of 95 competitors, guessed the exact weight, 2041b5.
Tug-of-War —First heat: Rahotu pulled Parihaka. After the full time of ten minutes, neither had crossed the line, though Rahotu had a few inches' advantage. In a later pull Rahotu won. Warea defeated Pungarehu after a strenuous pull. The final between Rahotu and Warea provided considerable excitement, but ultimately Rahotu gained the advantage and won.
The social in the evening, proved very successful, over £lB being taken at the door. The dance music was of the best, being supplied by Van Heck's orchestra.
