NEWTOX KING'S WEEKLY REPORT
On Friday, 17th inst., at my Kaponga yards, I had a heavy entry of cattle, mostly cows and weaners. There was a good attendance of buyers, with excellent competition for all lines offered, especially weaner steers and good conditioned cows. Weaner heifers met with an improved enquiry. Prices obtained were as follows:—Weaner steers, £1 lis to £1 17s; weaner bulls, £1 8s to £2 3s; colored weaner heifers, nice colored line, £2 2s 6d; other good lines of ! grades, £1 5s to £1 12s 6d; medium lines, 10s to £1 3s 6d;' poor stuff, 12» to 13s 6d; mixed weaners £1 to £1 lis 6d; weedy stuff, 7s to 10s 6d: 18-month heifers, good, £3 to £4 for best,; 18-month steers (very few yarded) £3 lis to £3 15s; springing heifers, £5 17s 6d; bulls, heavy, £6 17s 6d to £8 17s 6d; lighter, £4 as to £5; fat cows, £7 ss, £7, £6 las, £6 13s, £6 10s, £fi Gs, £G 2s, £G, £5 19s; big framed forward cows, £5 4s to £5 16s; smaller cows in forward condition, £4 Is to £4 18s; store cows, £3 to £3 16s; smaller cows or aged, £1 10s to £2 12s 6d. On the same day, at my Okau yards, owing to the very rough weather prevailing a few days prior to the sale, all the stock entered did not come forward, but I had a fair entry, all of which' I was able to clear at the following prices:— Mixed weaners, poor quality, 15b to £1 ss; nice colored Jersey weaner heifers, £2 ss; fat and forward cows, £5 16s to £G; good forward cows, £4 5s to £4 16s 6d; aged cows, £1 14s; in calf 2%-year heifers, £5 '2s Gd; cows and calves, £4 10s; 3y 3 -year bullocks, £7 15s; 3 and 3Vs-year bullocks, £6 17s 6d; 2% and 3-year steers, £6 Is; lambs, medium line, 9s 2d; empty f.m. ewes, 6s 3d to 7s 8d; fat and forward ewes, 13s 6d and 13s 9d; bulls, £3 12s 6d to £6 4s 6d.
At Urcnui on .Monday, owing to the rough weather, there was only a small entry, practically everything being cleared as follows:—Store cows, £2 ISa to £4; forward cows, £4 16s to £5 153; fat cows, £6 ss; bulls, £4 5s to £7; 18-month empty Shorthorh heifers; £2 13s; 18-month in calf heifers, £4 7s; lambs, 10s 3d; 2-tooth wethers, 15s; f.m. ewes, 7s 7d; fat wethers, 18s 3d; dairy cows, £8 10s; 2%-year. steers, £5 Is.
On Tuesday at Rahotu, for my fortnightly sale, the weather was again very rough and I had only a small yarding. Prices were:—Weaner steers, £1 Is 6d to £1 10s 6d; weaner bulls, £2; weaner heifers, £1 to £1 9s;. store cows, £3 10s to £3 17s; 18-month heifers, £3 ss; forward ewes, 12s; dairy cows, £6 10s. Private Sales.—My agents have been kept very busy, during the' week with private sales, there being an improvement in all lines of cattle and sheep, with the exception of empty heifers.
