AMERICAN MEAT TRUST.
ITS ALLEGED PRESENCE IN THE DOMINION.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Tuesday.
Those interested in tihe meat trade in New Zealand are keenly watching certain operations that are quietly going on at present, with a view to deciding as to whether an American Trust is endeavouring .to secure a footing in the Dominion.
In confirmation of this theory, it is noted that New Zealand business iman at present in England on an extended visit wrote by last mail to friends in Auckland to the effect that lie might have to Teturn much sooner than lie anticipated, ,< as his firm was meeting witli opposition owing to a well-known Chicago meat firm having started throughout New Zealand. These Americans went to work: very quietly, and started by acquiring a Canterbury meat business, and since then they have extended their operations/ to other parts of the Dominion. It is said that it will be interesting, in j view of these indications, to note if in ' the near future any co-operative meat company in New Zealand will have any difficulty in securing sufficient space for .shipments to Canada and America.
