NOTES BY "MOTUROA."
THE EGMONT MEETING. Nominations for the Egmont Racing Club's winter meeting fell due on Friday evening, and though not as large (numerically) as last year, they present a very attractive appearance, and are quite big enough at all events to ensure a good meeting on May 13 and 14. A total of 264 entries lave been received for fourteen races* as against 282 last year, but an average of just on nineteen per heat should satisfy anybody. Our Hawera friends have improved their winter programme this season, and need-
less to say increased stakes are. a feature of tile menu. The writer took a turn over the Hawera course recently, and the excellent state of tile tracks —ntfne better could be found in the Dominion, it may safely be stated —and the lawns, reflects great credit on the club's eare- , taker, Mr. A. Morse. Between sixty and seventy horsey are in work, and the various trucks hear a very busy appearance in the mornings. The liorses entered for the opening' handicaps are a good lot, and include
such well-known performers as Leonta, Byron, and Cheddar (in the! MeKac Memorial), and Crown Pearl, Sir Moselcy. Patronale. Play Off and hieimi (in the Tawlriti. Handicap). The hack events have, all filled well. Weights for the first day's events are due about May 1.
