THE GASWORKS.
A MUNICIPALISING PROPOSAL. A committee, consisting of Crs. A. 11. Johnstone, A. ,E. Sykeß, F. H. Jackson and Jas. Clarke was sot up by the Borough Council last night, on the motion of Cr. Sykes, to confer with the directors of the New Plymouth Gas Co. as to the lowest price they will take for the giant and goodwill of the company. In urging the necessity for municipalising the gasworks, Or. Sykes pointed out that the Council would need about 30,000 gallons of tar for streets at a cost of £I7OO, and this could be prepared at the I gasworks at a cost of £BSO.
