(Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):—• Mutton —The market is very dull, and has' been unfavorably affected by large arrival of mutton and chilled beef. There is no demand for heavy weights. Canterbury 4%d, North Island 4%d, both for light weights; ewes 3%d. Lamb—The market is steady, but tli® ..demand is chiefly for light weight. There is dull sale for heavy carcases. Canterbury 6y 2 d, heavy weights S'/gii other than Canterbury, 6d for ligat weights. There is limited demand for the poorer grades, which are in competition with Australian. Beef —The market is unsettled. New Zealand hinds 4%d, fores 3'/»d, chilled hinds 4%d, fores 3^. River Plate shipments received during March, 1914, were:—London, mutton 71,469 carcases, lamb 28,960 carcases; Liverpool, muttaii 57,100, lamb 4300; Hull, mutton 6*>44; Southampton, mut- , ton 1969, lamb 549; Newcastle, mutton 4675. lamb 200; totals. March, 1914: Mutton' 141,317, lamb' 34,009; total, March, 1913: Mutton 254.056, lamb 110,504. Butter —The market is quiet and demand is chiefly for best quality, with limited demand for poorer grades. The Danish market is quiet; per cwt., 114s to 116s. New Zealand is in increasing demand at 10(is, to 10Ss; unsalted, for which the demand exceeds the supply, 114s to 118s. Australian is in fair demand at 100s to 104s. Argentine is in poor demand at 90s to 106s. Siberian is in moderate demand at 100s to 104s. Cheese.—The market is quiet but steady. The Canadian stock is small and prices nominal. Canadian white, per cwt, GBs to 70s, colored 69s to 71s. New Zealand, finest white 61s 6d to 635, fine white 60s Od to 01s, finest colored 64s to 64s fid, fine colored 63s to 63s 6d; Australian, white 60s, colored 62# to 635, secondary 58s to 5.95. Hemp—The .market shows- better demand and is moderately active, but speculative, and depends upon sisal, the market for which is weak at £24 per ton. New Zealand, good fair £26 per ton, fair £23; Manila, fair current, £2O 10s, forward shipment nominally 5s more. The output from Manila for the week was 19,000 bales. Cocksfoot Seed—Buyers have been offering more freely. The average price of bright clean New Zealand seed, weighim; 171b per bushel, per cwt., is 565. Wheat—The market is quiet, with a
tendency in favor of buyers. Oats—Tlie market is dull and supplies large. Jieans —The market is dull. Peas—The market is steady, but demand only moderate. Wool—The market remains firm, AUCKLAND STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows: At Westlieid yards, on Thursday last) we held our usual sale of dairy ami store cattle. Best dairy cows and heifers close to pro/it, sold at from £!) 10s to £l2; others, £5 to' £!l; empty cows, .S3 to ■C4 4s; calves, 1& to 32s Cd. At Pukekohe yards we held our usual monthly sale.
