The bullet went wide :i ! s i :i corporatiom official, imaui! I'olU. lamckin;; out most of his teeth, and narrowly missing Mr. Woods, the new police commissioner. The assailant has been identified as David Ro*e. aged 70. lie was instantly overpowered and arrested. He was evidently mentally unbalanced. Poller- was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. Rose refused to answer questions. It is understood that he called to see the Mayor frequently, and was refused admission owing to his queer actions. A PISTOL PROTEST. Received 19, 5.5 p.m. New York, April 18. It mow appears that t'he assailant of the Mayor was" Michael 'Maliony, not Roqe. He declares that he was aggrieved at the city's extravagant expenditure*.
