POULTRY FOR PROFIT.
NEED FOR GOVERN 1n.., T INTEREST. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. The Poultry Association Conference to-day met the Secretary of Agriculture Mr. Pope, the director of live stock and meat (Mr. Reakes) and the assistant director (Mr. Brown), to whom various aspects of the poultry industry wore put. The President, Mr. S. Brittain, Bulls, referred specially to the need for wider ■and fuller dissemination of knowledge regarding poultry and egg production work, which he contended could best be done 'by the Department of Agriculture. The industry was worth £1.500,000 annually in the Dominion, and on tint' ground alone it was worthy of the attention of the Government. Mr. Pope said the department was; entirely in sympathy with the request j for more instructors. Mr. Reakes said lie was anxious, to do' what he could to assist tne industry. I Not much experimental work had been'; done as yet, but lie would be glad if i the conference resulted in suggesting to \ 'him the direction in which useful ex-1 periments could be made. .
