RIFLE SHOOTING.

TERRI'iORIAL TOURNAMENT., AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS'. SEMOR CADETS PREDOMINATE. A rifle shooting tournament open only to all members of Territorials, General Training Service and Senior Cadets of Areas 29, 30, 31 and 32 (No. 8 group) eventuated at the Rewa Rewa range yesterday. It proved so successful that it is certain to be made an annual affair. There were 106 entries, comprising 28 Territorials from {the Xlth 'Rcgt., 74 Cadets, and four from the General Training Service. There were no representatives of the 2nd Mounted Rifles. Competitors were present from all over the group, which extends as far as Taumarunui. A feature was the number who entered from the Stratford High School Cadets. This Company, which has only been formed ten days, entered twenty-five boys, who, in addition to competing for prize-money offered by the group, were also competing for special prizes offered by Stratford enthusiasts. The prize money, whicn was fcubaidised by the Government, was very liberal, one boy in three being able to touch prize, money. Capt. Stevens, Area Group Officer, ' was in charge of the proceedings, and he was ably assisted by Sergt.-Majors Bond. Dallinger, Hesp and Mahoney, Lieuts. Crutch and Lister (New Plymouth), and McKoy (Nomanby). Serct.-Major Armitagc had' charge of the trenches. Tile day was a good one for shooting, save that tne light was very bright at times. A slight wind was owing from the north, but not sufficient to interfere much with the shooting, which was lield under service conditions. The Cadets and Territorials fired independently. Among the former the New flymoutk High School secured the I>ulk of tne prizes, including -the grand aggregate, which was annexed by Pvt. Luccna. The A Company, New Plymouth, annexed the majority of the Territorial prizes, including the grand aggregate, which went to Sergt. Cargo. In presenting the prizes, Capt. Stevens said that though this competition wa« the first of its kind in Taranaki, he could -prophesy that it would be an annual affair. Amomg the Cadete the New Plymouth High School had carried off motft of the prizes, yet he felt sure that after a little more practice Stratford. Waitara, Inglewood, Nornr.inby, Waverley, King Country, in fact, every centre, would give a good account of itself. The shooting all through had been very creditable, and augured well for the future. He emphasised. his pleasure at the excellent discipline that had prevailed. ' He realised that they had all given up their holiday to make the meeting a success, and' he hoped next year_ to double the prize, money. In conclusion, tie called for three cheers for the hardworking secretary, Sergt.-Major Bond, went--'. Crutch and Lister, and 1 the members of the permanent staff, who had made the meeting so enjoyable. They were heartily given. The results were as follow:
