Shocking Fatality
MAX KILLED BY A TRAIN. BODY BADLY MUTILATED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Lasf.Night. ' A (Shocking fatality occurred in the early hours of this morning, Timothy 0 Connor, a laborer, residing at Islington, losing his life through being run over by a railway engine. The fatality occurred Bhortly after 1 a.m., about half a mile south of , the Islington railway station.
The driver of the midnight goods train from Christchurch to Ashburton, shorty after leaving Islington, noticed a man lying across the rails. He immediately appplied the emergency brakes, but unfortunately the train happened to be a very heavy one, and he could not pull up m time. The Tesult was that the unfortunate man was dragged some forty yards under the engine, and his body was terribly mangled. Death must have been instantaneous;
O'Connor was a single man, and was well known in Islington.
