HOTEL BOARDERS.
TARIFF MUST INCREASE. TO MEET BIGGER WAGES PAYMENTS. I!y Telegraph—Press Assocuuiun. , Wellington, Last Night. At a meeting of the executive of the Wellington Licensed Victuallers' Association to-day, the question was considered as> to what steps should b.: taken to meet the increased charge.-) imposed under the new award. Tlie president, Mr J. Beveridgo interviewed Bubsequently,|3tated that it was decided that the increases imposed were more than the trade could bear, and hotel tariffs consequently must be in-, creased. For this purpose it was decided to uonvenc a general meeting of the hotelkeepers in Wellington for Thursday afternoon next. '■The position," said Mr Beveyidge, "is that for the past ten or twelve vears we have met the reduction of hours and increased wages imposed by the Court, and the incidentally increased cost of living, without making any increase ■'in our tariffs; and now, particularly with the direct hint given by the Judge, we feel that we shall be fully justified in passing these extra charges on to the public." Asked as to what the increase in the tariff was likely to be, Mr Ticveridse said that this could not be definitely estimated, as the award would, affect sonic hotels more severely than others, and a general average would have to be struck. He was confident in saying, however, that the increase in hotel tariffs all round would be not less than one shilling per day.
