The Hawke Cup challenge match, Poverty Bay (challengers) and Wanganui (holders), commenced at Cook's Gardens to-day. The local team batted first, scoring 185.' Holland made 56 and Orton 28. Mc Mali on took eight wickets for 79 When stumps were drawn, Poverty Bay had scored 108 for five wickets (Moore not out 31, McMahon *3l). Bern&u took three wickets for 28 runs. The match will be resumed on Monday morning.
