WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIP. PETONE AND NORTH FINISH LEVEL By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The senior cricket championship'competition closed on Saturday, with the result that North, by securing a twopoint win over Petone, ties with the latter club for the premiership, with i 9 points each. On the previous Saturday North made 228. Yesterday 1 Petone only got 103 and 69 for two wickets, THE HAWKE CUP. POVERTY BAY v. WANGANUI. Wanganui, Saturday. The Hawke Cup challenge match, Poverty Bay (challengers) and Wanganui (holders), commenced at Cook's Gardens to-day. The local team batted first, scoring 185.' Holland made 56 and Orton 28. Mc Mali on took eight wickets for 79 When stumps were drawn, Poverty Bay had scored 108 for five wickets (Moore not out 31, McMahon *3l). Bern&u took three wickets for 28 runs. The match will be resumed on Monday morning.
