EMPIRE PICTURES.

The past throe nighta' crowded houses at the Empire have again proved the attraction there. is for a large percentage o£ the general public in a good, gripping drama, artistically mounted and intelligently produced. The record season of "King of the Air" is over, but the management expect to establish ail equally fine two nights' record with a big Luiin star, "The Special Officer/' ■to be screened to night and to-morrow night only. "The Special Officer" is not a military drama, the officer in question being "special" to a big banking concern. Tiie story deals with a slick confidence man, who tries a "get-rich-quick" scheme on the bank, hut meets his match in "The Special Officer." Amongst the supporting items, the chief attraction for picture patrons will be a tworeel Keystone eomedv, "The Bowling Match."

GREAT DOUBLE PROGRAMME—THEATRE ROYAL.

Lovers of a varied entertainment wil! bo well entered for in the huge programme to be presented at the Theatre Royal to-night, in aid of Miss Eileen McGuire's candidature for the Carnival Queen. The first part will consist of some excellent moving pictures, and the second part will be taken up with concert and high-class vaudeville items. Patrons will have the opportunity of seeing for the first time in New Plymouth Mr. G. J. Kama, a renowned comedian and entertainer, and Miss Maudi Mitchell, a clever solo danseuse, both-in concerted and single numbers. These artists have come up specially engaged for this entertainment. Tho remainder of the programme includes contributions from well-known New Plymouth artists of exceptional merit, together with Miss ESeen McGuira. A very enjoyable evening's amusement is anticipated. Seats may be reserved at Collier's.
