THE CAWTHRON SUBSIDY DELAYED By Telegraj h—Press Association. Nelson, Last Night. The Hospital Board to-day Appointed Mr A. K. Griffin, a local architect, to be architect for the new hospitjil building. The architect and. medical-superin-tendent will visit scvoral hospitals in Australia before the designs ol the new building are prewired. The Minister for Public Health, in reply to the->Board*B request for the early payment of the subsidy of £IB,OOO on Mr Cawthron'* gift of £15,000, wrote that he had informed Mr Cawthron that the subsidy would be forthcoming on the payment of , the money, but he did not contemplate that the Board would p.Kjuire the whole of the sum in one payment. As a matter of fact, nayment of so large a sum could not be made without the concur-, lence of Cabinet. The Minister trutted . tihe Board would be satisfied with hie assurance that the subsidy would be paid and accept it in progress payments as required. It was resolved that the Minister be informed that it is the opinion of the Board and the wish of Mr. Cawthron tfiat the Government should adhere to its promise and «•>»■ tV subsidy to the credit of tbi> Board without further delay, and, failing the ability of the Government to nay the subsidy at once, current rate of interest on Ae amount accruing should be paid to the Board as from the date of Mr Cawthron's gift. '
