White Slavery
NON-EXISTENT IN NEW ZEALAND.
By Telegraph—Press Association,
Wellington, Last Night. Careful inquiry in Wellington leads to the conclusion that "white slavery" Is non-cjjsti'iit in New Zealand, though isolated attempts may have been made to institute such traffic (and evidence on this point is inconclusive). There has never up to tho present been anjj systematic truffickins: in girls. The (act i» voted that any systematic business [ would, be easier of detection than the isolated instances ol seduction quoted by Mrs Field at the W.C.T.U. Convention, and in her later interview with the Minister. Many people can quoto such cases, but careful inouiry lian failed to disclose anything in support of the allegation of white slavery. Th(- police generally scout the suggestion. They point out that in such a small community any attempt to introduce a traf-. fie in women would be easily discovered.
