FIRES.
A BLENHEIM BLAZE. BENZINE AMD SPIRITS BURNING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, Last Night. At the time of wiring (10.50 p.m.) there is a fierce blaze at the Blenheim wharf. Clouston's big store and bond are wrapped in a sheet of flame. The store contained a large quantity of benzine, and this and tno spirits in bond made a magnificent speciacle. It is understood that some 200 cases of benzine i 1000 sacks of barley, and a store of spirits and tobacco were destroyed. The insurances are unavailable A NARROW ESCAPE. Auckland, Tuesday. By a fire which occurred in Eden Tcr,raae early tkis morning, a block of twostoried shops was gutted, and a shop occupied by Ernest James, a secondhand dealer, was much damaged. Three other stores were also a fleeted by the fire. Thomas was awakened at 2 a.m. by (i suffocating sensation, and found his bedroom full of smoke. He woke his wife, and just as he had done so the door burst open and the flames leapt into the room, having half destroyed the staircase. Thomas and his wife escaped through the front window over the verandah, clothed in night att-ire.
