London, March 31. An explosion of a benzine tank at Wordman and Holdcn's chemical works, Manchester, resulted in the destruction of seven acres of works. Two hundred police kept the crowds back. Many explosions of creosote, riapt&aline and sulphuric acid occurred, and the jlames were a hundred foct high. Flames made it most difficult for the firemen to work. Tons of sulphuric acid were turned into the street sewers for safety. A thousand factory workmen escaped by the windows.
