LONDON MAUKKT RKPORT. Messrs E. tirillitiis and C. are in receipt of the following market report from their London principals. .Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated London, February 13, 1014: llutter.—The general tre.de continues good, but prices are steadily easing down on most descriptions; the main reason for this is that the market on the Continent continues very bad. and prices there are showing loss to importers, so that they are poor buyers, and the bulk of the butter that is for sale has to come to this country.
Danish.—The quotation is again two kroners (2s 4d) lower, with spot prices about 3s easier on the week. Australian: The demand continues good, and all grades are clearing. I'nsalted is making considerable premium over salted, and under-grades, owing to the scarcity of other sorts, continue to make clone up to the best prices. This is a position, however, which may change during the course of a few weeks, as there will be more secondary butters coming from other countries.
New Zealand: Somehow or other the demand has not been so good on this description as we should like to see it, and there is no doubt at all that the irregular arrivals caused through the strike, has a great deal to answer for in this respect. Buyers were forced on to the oilier sorts, and having got on to them, they keep lo them, and (hey will now have to brought back to the New Zealand article at'a comparatively low price. The market, although quotalily unchanged, is a shade easier, there being more business done at the lower quotations than last week.
The Colonial arrivals this week consisted of: per s.s. Malwa, 21.750 boxes Australian.
Cheese. Canadian is in smaller supply than for many years past, ami the quotations are (|iiiie linn. There are still numerous traders who continue to handle the matured Canadian cheese at this season of the ycer in preference to the N'ew Zealand early makes, and the small .stock on hand enables holders to maintain the price. New Zealand: Tin- low prices ruling last week brought on a very big demand, and the po.-ition is fully Is per civt better quality ih.iu last year, and it is generally expected that tlie market has now settled down mi to a basis that will enable the heavy supplies lor the next six" weeks to char up.
