THE TRUCK ACT.
ALLEGED BREACH AT REEFTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Reefton, Thursday. In the S.M. Court to-day, a Truck Act case was considered. The Progress Mines, Ltd., engaged 2! men in Tasmania to work in the mines here, paying their fares to Hobart and from Hobarfc to Reefton, amounting to £8 10s. as advances against their wages. One man, Collins, was dismissed after lifteen days' work, and received 33s in cash and a receipt for £2 10s, as against the m 10s advanced. Counsel for plaintiff contended that the case was outside the Warden's Court jurisdiction, as the agreement was made in Tasmania, and also a breach of the Truck Act, as the advance was against non-existent wages. Judgment waß reserved.
