The energetic East Enders continue to parade the streets in burlesque costume, gathering in cash for the ballot-box, Last night they serenaded Fitzroy, with excellent cash results. To-night they will hold a dance in their pavilion. 'Clio programme is to be of the best, including songs by Messrs Nippert Bros, and J.. Lovcll. The committeemen have specially treated the floor, and challengs competition in this department. There is much local rivalry to provide the best attraction as a moans of securing votes, and this evening's concert Bhould easily be the most attractive form of amusement'yet produced. Mr. Van Heck's brilliant orchestra will play many operatic gems and Captain A. C. C. Stevens, of the Wellington Savage Club, society entertainer, and Mr. David Ingram, the well-known Auckland tenor, will contribute. Miss Hawke, for whom the concert has been arranged by Mr. Van Heck, is the sports candidate, and as there is sure to be a bumper house she should materially benefit. The Xew Plymouth Swimming Club will take to water on Monday night in a vote-gathering swimming carnival in the municipal baths. V A dance for the saine object will be held on Friday. Miss Vet a Gilbert, the nominee of the operatic and musical societies, is being well suppOTed Last night at the Empire Theatre her rendering of iv popular number from one of the Operatic Society's recent productions won her no unstinted favor with a large audience. She will appear at this theatre again on Frjday night. The Royal Pierrots will visit Inglcwood on Monday evening next on her behalf. A euchre parity and dance was given by the Eranklcy road people last nignt to assist the candidature of Miss A. Hawke. There was an attendance of over a hundred, and the function was successful and enjoyable. The prizes were won by Miss Johnson and Mr. MeAllum. The supporters of "The Country Girl," Miss Hilda Bishop, have been holding various functions in the country districts, and more are to follow. Candidates who have not been brought so prominently before the public are all reported to be supported by committees with "something tip their slec;:res," so that there is every prospect of a good contest. THE VOTING. The following are the positions of the respective candidates to date:—Miss Hawke 1, Miss Gilbert 2, Miss McGuire 3, Miss Harrison 4, Miss Bennett 5, Miss Bishop fi, Miss Henrichs 7, Miss Popplewell 8.
